Our Story
We have been in the eyewear business for a long time. For years, we saw the same logo mass-produced machine-made eyewear sold at almost every optical shop we could find. We knew our customers wanted to stand out more than that without sacrificing quality. That is our story on why we created Bellevue Eye Specialists. This is our story.
Our Team
Meet The Doctors
Abel Li
MD, OD
Dr. Abel Li, MD, OD is our founder and primary ophthalmologist. Board-certified and fellowship-trained in treating glaucoma at Yale University, he has over 20 years of clinical experience, with over 10,000 surgical cases under his belt. With his vision and steady hands, he’s ready to help everyone see and be seen. In his free time, Dr. Li enjoys running, swimming, hiking, and participating in fundraising sporting events.
Melissa Cho
OD
Dr. Melissa Cho, OD was raised in Bothell, WA and went to UW for her undergrad. She then went on to earn her Doctorate of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. During her externships she helped co-manage refractive surgery, ocular disease, and cataract surgery cases. In addition, Dr. Cho has a special interest in dry eye and visual fatigue cases. In her spare time, Dr. Cho enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants with her husband and spending time with their dog.
Steven Tan
OD
Dr. Steven Tan, OD, grew up in Los Angeles, CA. He attended the University of California, Berkeley where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and his Doctorate of Optometry (OD). At UC Berkeley and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, Dr. Tan gained experience in ocular disease, refractive surgery co-management, and contact lenses. His interests include rigid gas permeable contact lenses, myopia control, and primary care. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Tan enjoys hiking, cooking new dishes, traveling to try new foods, and archery.

Diane Charles, LDO
Award Recipient of Hall of Fame of OAA (Opticians Association of America) & 2 Time Award Recipient of Hall of Fame of OAW (Opticians Association of Washington)
Diane is our experienced optician. She has been in the business for over 40 years and has found thousands of perfect frames for patients in her career. She has a talent for repairing frames and has many connections in the optical business. Diane has been on the OAW Board for many years and has shared her wisdom to many others. In her free time, she enjoys sewing and golfing.
Lee Lavigne, LDO
President of OAW (Opticians Association of Washington)
Lee is one of our experienced & talented opticians. Being in the optical industry for decades, Lee has fit thousands of patients with a comfortable and stylish pair of frames. Lee has been on the OAW for many years and was once the Vice President of the OAW. He is now currently the President of the OAW.

Deanne
Technician
Deanne is one of our technicians who moved to Seattle from Hawai’i. She loves training new contact lens wearers and has been in the field for almost 2 years now. In her free time, she loves being active and is currently training to join the Air Force.
Jennifer
Technician
Jennifer is one of our experienced technicians. She has been in the optometric business for many years. She has experience with a wide range of patients and enjoys working with all kinds of patients.
Delanea
Technician
Delanea is one of our friendly technicians. She is professional and experienced in dealing with her patients. Delanea has been in the optometric business for many years now. She loves to work with patients.
